Sonic Bloom Weigela from Proven Winners |
I bought some new bushes and perennials to adorn the yard and enhance the beauty of what is the most peaceful spot in my yard.
I have planted six Weigela's on the side of the yard to create a row of hot pink to separate our yard from the neighbors. I bought these from our local seed store Clark Seeds. for 19.99 a piece, three this year and three last year. My mother had pink Weigela's along the side of our yard when I was growing up and they were so beautiful. It took me forever to be able to find out what type of bush it was, she had bought them in the early 1980's and had not idea what they were, lol.
With the help of garden answer I was able to figure it out and locate a few for myself. Thank you Garden answer.
I ended the hedge with a fragrant 3 season lilac bush. The verdict is still out on whether I should for the opposite side of the hedge.

My baby hedge, one day these bushes will grow to 4-5' tall and wide. |
Our Muddy Patio was next on the list of back yard to do's.
When we bought the house the previous owners left the concrete pad where there hot tub used to be and over the last four years of living here we have slowly turned it into a peaceful even living area during warmer weather.

The concrete patio near the back porch. |
It is a beautiful spot with an already established pink flowering dogwood tree. The patio is shaded from the sun, most of the day by a tree on one side and the back porch on the other.
If you haven't noticed. There is no door access to this area from the house. The door is on the other side, a little inconvenient but a project for another day.
Because this area gets very little sun it was difficult to find plants in my local area that would make the dark muddy spot green and lively. I planted a few hostas, a pair of heuchera along the outer walls of the house and a single citronella plant in the corner. The plants seem to be thriving. But like most perennials the real magic wont be seen for until next spring.

The new flower bed along the patio |
I know the patio doesn't look like much now but each year our yard gets more and more beautiful. This weekend we will be taking out a few trees. A dead something or other in the back yard and a pesky holly tree planted way too close to the house.
I'll post those pictures soon.
